The Bahrain Grand Prix is a night race which first took place at the Bahrain International Circuit on 4 April 2004 and made history being the first Formula One Grand Prix to be held in the Middle East. It is sponsored by Gulf Air and was given the award for the “Best Organised Grand Prix” by the FIA. Manama is an exciting Arabic city, that has a rich history of culture and Islamic architecture for you to view. With so many great highlights to explore one can be found in the narrow stalls at the Bab el-Bahrain souk where you will find Arabian sweet shops, souvenir shops, exquisite carpets, traditional lamps, pearls, perfume and spices. Take a trip to the National Museum, the Al Fateh Grand Mosque or Bahrain World Trade Center. Take a stroll along the Corniche al-Fateh or visit one of the many luxury resorts along the Gulf coast.

Nearest Airport

The closest airport to the circuit and the capital city of Manama is Bahrain International Airport (BAH), only about 8km away from the centre of Manama.    Find a taxi outside the exit of arrivals to take you to downtown Manama and be prepared to pay surcharges for luggage and airport pick up. Bahrain bus A1 and A2 routes service the Bahrain International Airport every 20 minutes.
 
 

 

Parking

With taxis being expensive in Bahrain you may find yourself wishing to rent a car, especially if you’re in group.  There’s no shortage of car hire companies at the airport but you’ll get better deals reserving one in advance.  Parking is provided at the circuit in abundance and is free for vehicles with two or more passengers.

Coach & Bus

Public buses in Manama have come on leaps and bounds since Formula One started visiting Bahrain. BPTC public buses are new, comfortable and are all decked out with 4G wifi.  Pay with cash or grab a rechargeable GO CARD and just tap as you enter the bus.

There’s no official shuttle bus for F1 fans put on by race organizers, but a number of major hotels in Manama do run either a free or paid shuttle bus service to the Bahrain circuit. Check with your hotel in advance to see if they are doing this.

Taxi

Going to the circuit from downtown Manama with a Uber is cheaper than using a regular taxi. On your way back after the Grand Prix there may be a long wait for Ubers and taxis so arrange pick up in advance if possible.
