The Canadian Grand Prix is an annual auto race held in Canada since 1961. It was first staged at Mosport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario as a sports car event, before alternating between Mosport and Circuit Mont-Tremblant, Quebec after Formula One took over the event. After 1971, safety concerns led to the Grand Prix moving permanently to Mosport. In 1978, after similar safety concerns with Mosport, the Canadian Grand Prix moved to its current home at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Notre Dame Island in Montreal. Nearest Airport
The main international airport serving Montreal is Montreal-Trudeau Airport (YUL) and is 20km from the city centre. It’s a busy hub with a range of direct flight connections to North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. There are various methods of transport from the airport such as finding a taxi, which is as easy as walking out the door and most drivers are fluent in English and French. There are other means such as Uber, rental cars and there is a 24 hour public shuttle bus from the airport. The 747 bus stops at Lionel Groulx Metro station and then regularly on Rene Levesque Boulevard West which runs through downtown Montreal.
Parking
All parking is located near Metro stops for easy access to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve however we recommend leaving your car and taking the Metro to the circuit.
Public Transport
Montreal has an efficient public transport network. For fans of the Grand Prix, getting the 3-day public transport pass is a great option as the circuit is most easily reached by metro. Tickets and passes can be used on buses and the metro on the island of Montreal. If you are staying on the south shore, you will be able to access the metro, but buses are run by another public transport operator, RTL.
Getting around in Montreal
With Montreal’s parks and green spaces, tourists enjoy hiring a bike with the local rental bike services or alternatively if you not using the bus or the Metro, you can use the Uber’s or taxis which there are plenty of. Dont forget to tip the driver.
